Natural Medicine, Bio-identical Hormone Therapy


            Most of America’s Medical Practices are governed by the all powerful Drug Companies; they fund our Med Schools and in turn our doctors are taught to use their “monster drugs”.

            What do I mean by monster drug??? Instead of giving you the Natural, Bio-identical compound that your body normally makes and uses, these Drug Companies take the natural compound and combine it with another compound (or side chain) to end up with their "drug".

            When you take this drug, your body must first cleave off the added side chain before it can be used.

            In reality, the Drug Company could much more easily and simply, produce and give you the natural substance; so you must be curious as to why they would make this monster??? The answer is Money; you see any company can make and sell Bio-identical compounds and they can sell them very cheaply, actually for pennies. On the other hand, the monster drug is patented, only the company holding the patent can make and sell it, and of course since it is theirs and only theirs, they can charge hundreds of dollars or whatever they want, for the patented drug.

            They also play with words like calling premarin “Natural” because it comes from nature, horse urine. However there is nothing Natural about this drug, in fact it’s so un natural they can patent it,and that’s the scary part.

I took this quote off the internet because it hit home for me so well.

            "Many societies the world over have treated chronic disease with "band-aids" of prescribed pills for various symptoms. No one ever even looked for underlying causes of our pains. Ten minutes with a doctor, usually led to an unpredictable number of prescriptions. We tried to control our symptoms; however we never looked at the origins of our suffering.”

            To recap monster drugs cost hundreds of dollars instead of pennies and your body probably can’t use them as efficiently. For years after graduating Med School I thought the drug manufacturers simply couldn’t make progesterone and that’s why we used that other stuff, silly me, it's all about Money!!!

            Are you getting the picture? Drug manufacturers make billions, treating the symptoms, not curing the disease; they don’t want us to be cured. Why would they want to stop selling us expensive sleeping pills, antidepressants, or pain killers???

            For example, Prozac artificially increases serotonin, but the drug has side effects and is toxic. You are much better off boosting your own production of serotonin with proper amino acids, vitamins, minerals, and herbs, treatment that has been used successfully for thousands of years, but that might cure you and we couldn't sell you Prozac. 

            The Amino Acids, Serine, L-theanine and Melatonin are nicknamed “Natures Xanax”. They will promote a much healthier, rejuvenating night’s sleep, complete with dreams, than any drug will.  Growth hormone is essential to our general well being and hormonal balance, but did you know that after age 20 or so, growth hormone is only made in our bodies during REM sleep. In my opinion, sleeping pills probably shut down your REM completely.

Do yourself a favor and go to bed a little earlier tonight.

            At American Physicians Wellness Center any hormonal treatment is Bio-identical, we test, measure and only if there is a deficiency we consider replacement. In my office, patients are prescribed only natural bio-identical hormones instead of some drug that may, “kind of”, act like a hormone after your body metabolizes it. Why take a very expensive monster drug with all its potentially lethal side effects when what you need is safe, natural progesterone.

            By the way,the science is clear on estrogen; it’s the metabolites or breakdown products of the oral Brand Name Monster Estrogens that cause the associated cancers. Estrogen should NEVER be given oral, and almost never needs to be given at all.

            After menopause, even surgical menopause, a woman’s estrogen level only drops around 10-30% or so however, estrogens are heavily prescribed for hot flashes (menopause) by most gynecologists. Most doctors believe that these vasovagal symptoms are caused by a marked deficiency in estrogen, however this is usually not the problem as we well know now. In fact only progesterone is what is needed, in 99 out of 100 patients, and it's given to balance estrogen;  we rarely give estrogen in our practice, and when we do, it's given in a cream through the skin, never oral.
